Apparently, the Data Hub has been buried. Since the departure of top SAP manager Franz Färber, this SAP "innovation" has been very quiet. Whether the path now taken by SAP CEO Christian Klein will lead to more success is doubtful for the time being, as times have changed:
Even the most ingenious individual solutions will no longer be accepted by the market if there are "open source" alternatives.
According to a report in the magazine Golem (see link), the telecommunications provider United Internet wants to do without established suppliers when building its 5G network.
"Nowadays, networks are built more in the cloud, they are virtualized, they want to control them via software and promote vendor-independent structures. We are building an open RAN network, completely virtualized"
a United Internet spokesperson told Golem.
Becoming vendor-independent could also be a wish of existing SAP customers when they take a look at the technology and license fees of their transformation to Hana and S/4.
Perhaps Walldorf should think less about technical solutions and more about an overall strategy for how ERP should be positioned in an open and dynamic economy - there are other ways!
