System Management

Many years ago, SAP's existing customers were already aware that SAP Solution Manager itself was free of charge, but that customizing, training, maintenance and infrastructure required considerable financial resources. In the meantime, SolMan has evolved. It is almost omnipresent and beyond reproach. The SolMan is similar to one of those multifunctional Swiss Army knives that can do everything, but are so big that they no longer fit in any trouser pocket - all that remains is the name "pocket knife", but no longer the function!
In SAP Basis, there are numerous tasks that need to be automated - without the need to use the powerful SolMan tool. It also seems important for the future to build partnership and connections, such as with Red Hat's Ansible automation tool for Hana deployments.
SAP partner Empirius probably thought something similar. Over the past few months, Empirius has developed a very lean SAP system management tool that has nowhere near the functionality of SolMan, but fits back into the pockets of system administrators and CCoE managers. EPOS is the name of the offering, which stands for Empirius Planning and Operations Suite. This suite is primarily intended for SAP Basis.
EPOS logs and versions all activities in SAP Basis, which is a crucial aid for the automated distribution of authorizations, for example. Among other things, the Empirius suite can read out the patch status of all connected systems. This can then also be used to perform verified kernel patches. There were and are sections where the Hana database is supplied with new patches almost weekly. Here, only flexible and transparent automation can help to maintain operations. In specific cases, custom processes can also be created using Git and Ansible and seamlessly integrated into EPOS.
Together with Empirius Chief Development Officer Marcus Bogenstätter and other guests, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11 a.m., we will visit www.e-3.de and our YouTube channel broadcast a roundtable discussion on "System Management" as a livestream from the E-3 video studio. Reserve this date and be there live for information and educational work on the topic of SAP System Management.
