Master data management: material creation process
The cleaning products, care and detergent manufacturer Werner und Mertz, for example, wanted to improve and simplify its material plant processes. They will succeed with the help of the master data management software from SAP partner FIS.
Entering master data into an SAP system and keeping it up to date is often a complex task for companies. This is because many areas of the company are involved in master data processes, which means that errors can quickly creep in and lead to poor master data quality in the long term. It is important to clearly define these processes and provide employees with a software tool that makes their work easier and more transparent. In the past, many companies have developed their own software solutions to implement company-specific requirements for creating and maintaining data. This was also the initial situation at Werner und Mertz.
The company was faced with the challenge of replacing its outdated in-house development for creating material master data. As part of the transition from R/3 to S/4, it was important for the Mainz-based family business to use a master data solution that was close to the SAP standard, contained workflows and simplified material creation.
For example, the in-house developed solution creates a lot of work for the company, which will be eliminated when FIS/mpm goes live: Customizing and user administration are partly redundant - in the ERP system itself and in the master data solution. The company wanted to be able to work on data records in parallel and to test the dependency of fields with the help of the system.
