IaaS & PaaS

We've written it many times before, the direction of SAP's strategy is right. There is no "between the worlds," as the user association DSAG e.V. intends to prove at its annual congress in October of this year.
But: The speed is too high! Many existing SAP customers will not make the SolMan 7.2 target run-in on December 31. Many database administrators are still puzzling over the difference between Hana 1 and 2 - only this much is certain, those who have opted for SoH (Suite on Hana 1) will have massive problems by 2019 at the latest.
But not only existing customers, but also many technicians and developers at SAP are in despair in the face of such executive board decisions by Bill McDermott and Bernd Leukert.
And the next revolution is already around the corner: IaaS with OpenStack and PaaS with Cloud Foundry. With Hilde from Suse Linux, SAP has been using the open source offering OpenStack for Infrastructure-as-a-Service for quite some time.
This fall will see the next development deliverables from SAP and Suse in the Platform-as-a-Service space with Cloud Foundry.
More on this in the coming E-3 issues: Between the worlds? There will only be one hybrid world - but SAP customers must learn to understand it. E-3 Magazine will help you do that - we promise!
