Hasso Plattner AI endowed professorship

With a donation of two million US dollars from SAP, the Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, has established a Hasso Plattner Endowed Professorship in Artificial Intelligence. The professorship, named after the SAP co-founder, is intended to create a sustainable basis for further expanding the boundaries of information technology.
The professorship will facilitate new AI courses and research projects, foster collaboration with industry while supporting the expansion of advanced computing infrastructure. The professorship holder will also mentor master's students and postdoctoral fellows to train the next generation of AI leaders in academia and industry. "UC Irvine has been one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of artificial intelligence for decades. The establishment of the Hasso Plattner Endowed Professorship in Artificial Intelligence will further strengthen this position," said Marios Papaefthymiou, Dean of the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences since 2017 and holder of the Ted and Janice Smith Family Foundation Professorship. "With this endowment, SAP joins our mission to actively shape the future through human-centered computing technologies."
