Possible applications: Blockchain in the SAP environment

Blockchain technology is increasingly being integrated into corporate contexts, particularly to improve transparency, security and efficiency in data-based processes. According to estimates by market researchers such as Gartner, blockchain technology could generate a global business volume of up to USD 3.1 trillion by 2030. With its solutions, SAP is positioning itself as part of this development - with the aim of establishing blockchain as a building block for future-proof, digital business models. SAP also offers various approaches for using this technology in conjunction with its systems. The focus here is on blockchain-as-a-service offerings and special platform solutions, among other things.
Blockchain as a service
With Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS), SAP offers a cloud-based solution that enables companies to use blockchain technology without having to invest in complex infrastructure themselves. This service is developed and provided via the SAP Business Technology Platform. This allows blockchain applications to be integrated into existing business processes, for example for tracking supply chains, in contract management or for the secure documentation of proof of origin. SAP's platform supports common blockchain protocols and enables the development of individual solutions - also in cooperation with business partners or as part of consortia. The range of possible applications is broad. In supply chains, for example, blockchain can be used to track products seamlessly from origin to end customer. Traceability and data integrity are particularly crucial in sensitive areas such as the food industry, the pharmaceutical sector or the energy sector.
