Leveraging savings potential in production with ORBIS DSP
In the future, Oerlikon Balzers will use the ORBIS Distributed Shopfloor Processing (ORBIS DSP) solution to establish interoperability between technical data and processes on the production level, the IOT platform and IT systems on the business level such as ORBIS MES and SAP ERP.
Those responsible see the possibility of centrally configuring and administering the large number of plants distributed around the world and the equipment installed there, as well as the data and process flows, in the cloud-based management cockpit of ORBIS DSP as a major plus point.
Oerlikon Balzers operates the EDGE component of the DSP solution on industrial-grade hardware in the control cabinet. The aim is to exploit potential savings. A proof of concept (PoC) has already been carried out, and ORBIS DSP is currently being implemented as part of a pilot project at the Brügg plant in Switzerland.
