The trend is towards outsourcing
In the digital age, the success of SAP implementations depends to a large extent on efficient and robust SAP business assurance test processes. This is because business processes no longer begin and end with S/4 Hana; they run across platforms and applications. At the same time, the dynamic development of digital processes demands more frequent updates. However, each of these updates also requires extensive and complex testing. This poses major challenges for corporate IT departments. According to the SAP Business Assurance Report, which Tricentis compiled in cooperation with Capgemini and Sogeti, internal IT departments are currently still responsible for quality assurance of SAP applications in 45.6 percent of companies. Special test teams for end-to-end SAP tests have been set up by 27.8 percent of those surveyed. And at 21.3 percent of the companies, responsibility for testing lies with the quality management team of the respective project. However, the abundance and high complexity of testing tasks in the SAP environment require extensive human and technical resources.
The thinned-out IT departments are usually unable to provide these. The report, for which more than 750 people from organizations with revenues of over one billion US dollars from various industries and a total of 17 countries were surveyed, therefore records a clear trend: companies are increasingly relying on specialized external providers of software testing, especially for complex tests. For example, 45.1 percent currently rely on service providers for API/component testing and 43.7 percent on performance testing providers. Overall, there is a growing demand for specialized service providers in the area of SAP Business Assurance. It can be assumed that this trend will continue, as these providers have the necessary technical and functional expertise. They not only bring the necessary tools, but above all the necessary expertise.
