Misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement, and antitrust violations are the causes of action Teradata is bringing against SAP in a U.S. court.
Specifically, Teradata accuses SAP of anti-competitive dealings with Teradata and, equally, its customers over a period of a decade.
"SAP lured Teradata into a purported joint venture to gain access to Teradata's valuable intellectual property. In doing so, SAP's goal was to gain access to Teradata's trade secrets, which had been developed over a period of four decades, in order to quickly exploit them and develop a competing product - albeit an inferior one - and offer it to the market.
This product is SAP Hana. Shortly before the release of SAP Hana, SAP terminated the partnership with Teradata at short notice. Since then, SAP has been trying to push its customers into exclusive use of Hana and displace Teradata"
the company said in a statement. Teradata is seeking an injunction against SAP that will stop SAP's illegal conduct. Further, Teradata is pursuing recovery of damages that the court deems appropriate. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California.
