SAP Solution: Hybrid Cloud

Many companies and public authorities currently want to intensify digitization and modernization. In many cases, the existing IT infrastructure that has grown over many years represents an obstacle.

SAP S/4 Hana is available both in the cloud and on-prem. Although SAP as a company prefers the cloud, there are many reasons to opt for a local installation, including security. This article compares both options.

Salesforce is migrating more than 200,000 systems from CentOS Linux to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, building on their Linux platform to streamline IT operations and enhance customer experience.

Linux, as an open source operating system, has been present in the SAP community for about 20 years. But open source is much more. In recent years, the scene has evolved rapidly, and with IBM's acquisition of Red Hat, the topic of "open source" received its B2B accolade.

SAP's customers are caught between the conflicting priorities of migration and innovation, necessary changes which are associated with a wide range of strategic, technical, and business challenges. The key is that it's all about building an intelligent enterprise.

The SAP deadline of 2027 applies to most applications and existing customers. They are actively driving the necessary migrations. However, innovation is often neglected during the transformation. But this does not have to be the case.

The modernization of SAP landscapes is by no means done with a lift & shift to the cloud provider. A large number of proven and required add-ons, extensions and tools are initially left out or have to be adapted and individually integrated in tedious detail work.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced application, analytics and developer services for its GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform. They support data-centric modernization in hybrid cloud environments.

Only fourteen percent of SAP users are in the cloud - the slow pace of migration to S/4 is worrying. The hesitation of SAP decision-makers suggests that the benefits of migration are not clear - this is where application modernization must provide the added value.

Due to the turbulence of the past few years, companies not only had to ensure an efficient IT infrastructure, but also increasingly had to consider the economic aspects.

A strategic approach to hybrid cloud adoption is the key to success: it increases the likelihood of accelerated digital transformation fourfold.
