Despite great commitment, perfect presentation and comprehensive content, the spark did not want to jump. The Hana database and the concept of the Hana platform became more and more an unwelcome accessory for the S/4 release change. Even boosters like Intel Optane Persistent Memory almost completely missed their mark. The Hana platform became a slippery slope that hardly anyone can or wants to stay on. This slippery slope could become a problem for SAP and the community, because the lifecycle of Hana should last at least until S/9. Starting with S/4, the database platform should also be ready for all future release upgrades, because that would save SAP's existing customers a lot of headaches and resources. A stable data platform with continuous improvement for S/4, S/5, S/6, etc. would be the desired configuration of the SAP community. Whether Hana will still be a life raft remains to be seen.
