Wilken wrote a letter to the SAP Executive Board in June 2015. According to a press release from Wilken, a representative of the SAP Executive Board said that the brands could simply be used side by side.
This is despite the fact that both ERP companies associate very similar benefits with it, such as integration into the cloud or the ability "to significantly simplify business processes and change them as required in order to achieve efficiency gains".
SAP and Wilken already had an intensive exchange on the topic of S/4 (by Wilken) in 2012. There had been several top-secret meetings and workshops to check whether Wilken's S/4 Ener:gy could be integrated into SAP software solutions with the help of SAP's Business ByDesign.
The Wilken delegation in Walldorf is said to have been discreetly directed to a side entrance. Ultimately, there was no collaboration. SAP has since launched its S/4.
The extent to which meetings with Wilken were inspiring is difficult to ascertain. Wilken does not want to accept the parallel use of the name and is considering legal action.
SAP does not understand the accusations: SAP Business Suite 4 SAP Hana, or SAP S/4 Hana for short, refers to SAP's next-generation business suite, which is based entirely on Hana.
The term "S/4 by SAP" in Wilken's press release is therefore incorrect, as are the claims made for the name. S/4 is not protected by Wilken.
SAP confirms that there have been partnership talks in the past to connect an industry solution from Wilken to Business ByDesign.
