SAP's new head of security
Justin Somaini has taken on the role of chief security officer at SAP. Somaini joins from cloud provider Box, where he held the role of chief trust officer. Prior to that, he held senior positions at Yahoo and Symantec, among others. Somaini has more than 20 years of professional experience in the IT security industry.
"The newly created role demonstrates the relevance of the topic of security in a digitally networked world. With Justin Somaini, we have gained a security expert whose knowledge and experience will benefit not only SAP as a company, but also our customers in particular.
says Bernd Leukert, member of the Board of Management responsible for Products & Innovation.
Especially in view of the changing threat potential, purely passive defense measures are no longer sufficient by far. It is therefore crucial to detect security gaps as early as possible and to close them quickly.
"Early detection" is thus gaining in importance, as is the development of tools that can be used to efficiently eliminate threats. That's why SAP has developed a three-tier, holistic security approach to safeguard its own operations and meet high security standards in its software - the three pillars Prevent, Detect, and React.

"In the past, IT security always had the image of causing high costs and slowing down day-to-day business"
Somaini says.
