Monoculture

If the economy grows, SAP grows. If there is no pest infestation, then almost any monoculture is highly profitable. So Bill's decision regarding cloud computing is visionary!
A monoculture like "Cloud First" can be organized easily and efficiently. If the "cloud" monoculture achieves the appropriate scaling effect, profits begin to bubble up abundantly, see SAP's Embrace partners AWS, Google and Microsoft.
The question now: Does Bill McDermott's monoculture "cloud" also correspond to the wishes and ideas of the SAP community and the DSAG members?
We will find out more in a few weeks at the DSAG annual congress. This much can already be said: SAP's existing customers prefer hybrid cloud and many rely on on-prem.
In an exclusive interview with E-3, SAP Executive Board member Christian Klein also emphasized that SAP intends to continue investing in on-prem. Klein thinks holistically and acknowledges the heterogeneous history of SAP's existing customers.
A "cloud" monoculture remains counterproductive in the SAP community - from a business, organizational and technical perspective. Many Industry 4.0 applications need low latency, which can hardly be achieved by cloud computing.
McDermott's "Cloud First," which often sounds like a "Cloud Only," is not a path for the SAP community. No monoculture: Hybrid cloud yes, plus on-prem for important niche applications or powerful Hana servers like IBM Power.
