DSAG theme day „Licenses“

Rise, cloud and other license agreements were discussed with great commitment and passion at the DSAG Annual Congress 2024 in Leipzig. An almost three-hour series of presentations with workshop character showed the congress visitors in Leipzig the stumbling blocks and pitfalls of a Rise and Cloud transformation. DSAG members were familiarized with numerous practical cloud examples as well as the legal pitfalls of a Rise contract.

The success of the license lecture series in Leipzig 2024 was overwhelming, so the user association immediately planned a „Licenses“ theme day for this year: The DSAG theme day „Licenses and Contracts“ took place on 21 and 22 May 2025 in St. Leon-Rot, focusing on the important topics of license management and contracts in the SAP environment. This event was also an overwhelming success - but obviously to SAP's displeasure. Criticism of the license model is a taboo subject for SAP. Millions of euros are at stake here. Ignorance on the part of existing SAP customers gives SAP itself an excellent margin.

The die was therefore cast for the DSAG Annual Congress in Bremen this year: no further events and discussions on the topics of Rise, Cloud and licenses. Shortly after the successful event in St. Leon-Rot in May, the DSAG managers announced that separate theme days on the topic of SAP licenses were now also being planned in Austria and Switzerland. The SAP community was therefore expecting another DSAG „Licenses and Contracts“ theme day for 2026 - but this day will not take place! The official reason: organization, logistics and finding topics are too complex to hold a successful event every year.

Following the cancellation of the DSAG theme day „Licenses and Contracts“ for 2026, the SAP Community Summit „Competence Center“ on 10 and 11 June 2026 in Salzburg will once again address this important SAP topic for the DACH region, as it did in 2024. We are currently in the process of identifying topics and coordinating the commitments of SAP partners, experts and speakers. A final program for the SAP Community Theme Day 2026 will already be available at the end of this year. This theme day will be part of the CCoE (Customer Center of Expertise) educational work.

And what happened in Bremen? As a „fig leaf“ of the no longer scheduled license lecture series, licenses were discussed in general for an hour. However, the lawyer giving the lecture was advised to remain on the surface and not to be very critical. This time, the DSAG members had to make do with a short license introduction on the SAP topic. However, the cancellation of the DSAG theme day does not have to be final! There are valid considerations that the organization and selection of topics should now be taken over by SAP itself in cooperation with the DSAG user association. SAP informs about SAP: Shame on those who think badly of it!
