Cloud Complexity Report 2023
Budget constraints and multicloud challenges increase pressure
NetApp, a global cloud- and data-focused software provider, releases the Cloud Complexity Report 2023, a global study that shows that issues of proprietary data sovereignty, ESG, and sustainability are driving the need for complex multicloud environments. Yet cloud investments are increasingly questioned in many organizations, and concerns about the cloud are reaching new heights. Rising skepticism about the financial value of cloud investments is highest among European respondents in Germany and the United Kingdom: In both countries, 81 percent of respondents say their management is skeptical to extremely skeptical that it can realize cost savings with the cloud.
"The hybrid multicloud has become an integral part of the IT infrastructure in many companies - it offers enormous opportunities, but also brings with it challenges.“
Peter Wüst,
VP and Managing Director Germany, NetApp
The costs of cloud projects are a particularly frequent topic of discussion among managers in Germany: Well over half of those surveyed (57 percent) state that costs are discussed critically frequently or every time when it comes to potential cloud applications and investments in this area. This is hardly surprising: CFOs are sensitive to and on the lookout for cost savings, especially in times of declining budgets. However, companies see important factors in considering the cloud as a necessary part of their IT infrastructure. In Germany, data sovereignty has comparatively little influence on multicloud strategies, but German companies are particularly likely to view the cloud as an important component in achieving their ESG and sustainability goals. For example, 78 percent of respondents from Germany said that their cloud strategy plays an important role in reducing their carbon footprint - the highest figure worldwide.
