Most business processes are not limited to SAP. Much sensitive data is exported by users to MS Office applications - a risk that is significantly underestimated.
Data that could previously be protected by SAP authorization concepts is now increasingly exported from secure SAP systems and redistributed via third-party applications such as MS Office. Anyone who wants to protect their data should think about new, data-centric security concepts and anchor them as a core process in operational IT operations.
With the new EU GDPR, data protection has become a matter for the boss. As of May 2018, violations of this regulation will no longer be punished with a maximum fine of 300,000 euros, but with up to 20 million euros or four percent of global sales, whichever is higher.
