Rise for SAP Add-ons

The immediate goal should be to provide complementary SAP Basis automation solutions tailored to the various SAP operating models. Hans Haselbeck, CEO of SAP Basis automation specialist Empirius, is convinced of this: „Whether for on-premises, cloud, hybrid systems, or Rise for SAP.“ He makes no secret of the fact that this does not always make things easy for providers of SAP Basis automation solutions.

With Rise, SAP has essentially put up a fence. „But our developers have thoroughly examined the issue and sought solutions,“ he counters. Despite changes to API specifications or other restrictions imposed by SAP, there are still ways to provide access to SAP-managed customer systems for third-party SAP Basis automation solutions. This also applies to Rise and to customer systems with a Rise contract.

Version 26.1 with Rise-Ready apps

According to Empirius, a customer survey yielded various insights on the topic of „Rise for SAP and the use of non-SAP Basis tools.“ First, customers want their SAP Basis tasks to be more user-friendly than what SAP currently offers. Second, they want more functionality than what SAP offers. And third, customers do not want to do without a familiar and easy-to-use SAP Basis automation solution that delivers significant benefits.

According to the company, the SAP Basis automation specialist has initially implemented „Rise Ready“ in two apps from the new Epos Suite version 26.1, which was recently made available to customers, along with several new features. These features fall under the category of „security.“ These include the app for managing SAP and non-SAP certificates and a new app called SAP User Admin for managing passwords for SAP users and technical users. According to Haselbeck, two additional apps are in the works in connection with Rise: the SAP Security Notes app for handling and managing SAP security notes, and the BlueCopy app for automatically creating copies of SAP systems.

Upcoming Rise-Ready Apps

In total, the company now offers more than 25 apps in the Epos Suite for automating various SAP Basis tasks and activities. In addition to „Security,“ the apps can be broadly categorized as „Maintenance“ (particularly updates/upgrades) and „Administration“ (reporting). The Certificate Management app is now „Rise-compatible“ as of version 26.1 and, according to the manufacturer, provides everything necessary for PKI and certificate integration.

Also new: the ability to replace certificates on Java systems or to replace PSEs, even if they are protected by a PIN. In general, the app allows users to replace individual certificates, multiple certificates, or several at once. The app guides the user through the process via a workflow. The user simply selects which protocols and certificates to replace or delete. A dashboard shows at a glance which certificates are due for replacement or are about to expire. A scheduler is available for periodic tasks. As is well known, the „certificate problem“ is becoming increasingly urgent due to the standard time limits on certificates, and without automation, it becomes increasingly critical.

The second „Rise-Ready app“ now available is called SAP User Admin, a new app in the Epos Suite. According to the Empirius CEO, it allows users „to centrally block or add individual SAP users or entire groups of system users with just a few mouse clicks, rather than having to access each user individually—even in conjunction with Rise.“ The Reporting app in the SAP Basis automation suite Epos supports the new Rise-Ready apps.
