Longhorn extends Edge scenarios
Suse presents Longhorn 1.1. Longhorn has been a sandbox project of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) since October 2019. With the general availability of Longhorn in June 2020, adoption has increased by 235 percent since then and the project is now a key player when it comes to Kubernetes and storage. The new release enables Rancher users to utilize a Kubernetes-native storage solution on limited hardware in edge environments.
With Longhorn 1.1, DevOps teams benefit from easy management of persistent data in any Kubernetes environment and a vendor-neutral approach to cloud-native storage. Rancher users will increase the resilience of their edge environments with this new update, including ARM64 support, new self-healing capabilities and improved performance visibility with Longhorn 1.1. Longhorn is 100% open source, microservices-centric and cloud-native storage for Kubernetes applications. It is significantly less complicated than other software-defined storage solutions.
