Top Topic S/4 Migration
If market observers are to be believed, the bulk of all migrations from SAP ERP ECC ("SAP Classic") to SAP S/4HANA are still to come. There is talk of a mid-five-digit number by 2027 (or in Extended Support by 2030).
As the SAP infrastructure partner of the first HANA or S/4 hours, the open source specialist SUSE has earned a market share of more than 80 percent for HANA-based SAP solutions with its Linux operating system platform SLES for SAP Applications.
The thousands of S/4 projects that have now been implemented at companies of different sizes and in various industries have given rise to an enormous wealth of experience and beneficial project knowledge - whether for SAP S/4HANA deployment on-premise, via the cloud or in hybrid cloud computing.

SUSE is Platinum Sponsor
Within the SAPHIRE NOW events taking place in June (EMEA and Americas on June 7; Asia on June 21), SUSE (www.suse/saphire21.com) in the "Track IT" continues his know-how in terms of S/4 transformations and informs the community about innovations and further developments in "for SAP solutions".
SUSE is participating in this track as a platinum sponsor and, in this context, has the opportunity to conduct an online workshop at the event for interested parties on the topic of "Reducing operational risk when migrating SAP S/4HANA to the cloud". There will also be several track sessions.
For example, one with the theme "Role of an IT infrastructure in the context of an SAP S/4HANA transformation"The benefits to enterprises of an agile and flexible SAP infrastructure based on SUSE, along with real-world examples.
The focus is on the SUSE solutions SLES for SAP Applications, SLES High Availability Extension (HAE, cluster software) and the system management software SUSE Manager. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications includes numerous functions that have been specially developed for mission-critical SAP deployment in joint cooperation with SAP.
Recently, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications has been awarded the "Endorsed App" label issued by SAP. This means that SLES for SAP has been tested and certified by SAP at the instigation/invitation of SAP. Only a few partner solutions are quasi-awarded with this.
New version 15.3
As part of the current SAPHIRE NOW, SUSE is providing insights into the new version 15.3 (SP 15.3), which will soon be available as a "for SAP variant". Already within the recently held SUSE customer and partner event SUSECON (susecon.com) there was information about the generic variant OpenSUSE 15.3. There was also information about the possibilities of using SUSE solutions in the data center (with Linux, Kubernetes/Ranger and as an edge computing basis).
Also being presented at the SAP customer event is an extended SUSE service that specifically covers the topic of high availability (HA, High Availability) with SUSE HAE (cluster software in SLES for SAP based on the open source solution called Pacemaker). It is aimed at both SAP user companies and SAP partners (consulting companies, service providers or implementation partners).
HAE is usually used together with SUSE Manager and SAP Solution Manager. By the way: If a migration involves HANA clusters or high availability, SUSE is usually the preferred software supplier. There will be a live workshop on this topic conducted by SUSE as part of SAPHIRE NOW.
SAP itself has been using SUSE solutions for years. For example, in its development platform, but also in the HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC); which is a basis for the SAP initiative "Rise for SAP".
