SAP Solution: MaxDB

Good connoisseurs of SAP history are getting queasy, albeit with a sense of déjà vu. Professor Hasso Plattner meets Shai Agassi and officially makes him Chief Technology Officer and unofficially his "foster son.
About a year ago, Microsoft and Suse deepened their partnership at a meeting in the USA. SAP brought together two IT companies that could become support and competition for the ERP world market leader from Walldorf.
In order to promptly replace outdated IT infrastructure and financial accounting with a modern one, Butzkies Stahlbau opted for SAP. The new system was planned and implemented by the ERP specialists of the Kiel-based Vater Group. Instead of investing in new hardware, the medium-sized company opted for a cloud-based solution in the Vater Business Cloud.
I gave a brief history of SAP and third-party BI solutions in use in my last article in E-3 Magazine (p.12, September 2016). The realization that more and more SAP users are now attracted to Microsoft front-end solutions is still valid. Basically, the entire BI train around SAP has picked up speed and it is not slowing down.
Can the new S/4 Business Suite deliver on the promise of a "digital core for digital business processes" for supply chain and logistics as well? An initial reality check reveals: The goal is becoming (more) visible on the horizon with each new release. But there is still a long way to go until then.

Linux in the SAP community is not new. Everyone is familiar with the term "open source". Nevertheless, one can speak of a revolution. In a few years, the SAP community will be a different one - SAP will join the paradigm shift. There is no alternative!
SAP's current database strategy is not obvious to customers at first glance. Hana is obviously at the center of SAP's strategy, but older SAP database management systems such as MaxDB or ASE still play their role in the canon of DBMS from SAP.
Everything is better with Hana. But what happens to the previous applications? What about the add-ons? The Z programs? Will everything have to be reprogrammed? "No," says Florian Lenz, Head of Departement Forecast at G.I.B.
Hana has many parents. Numerous database engines come together to form a respectable overall concept. This conglomerate of good ideas, own and purchased software was and is not always easy to master.
Libelle AG is presenting itself at this year's DSAG Congress in a new old look with solutions that make everyday IT life easier: the portfolio of disaster recovery, high availability and copy solutions for SAP environments is being continuously expanded.
Libelle and Infolytics have entered into a cooperation for the distribution of Libelle products and services around the asynchronous data mirroring software DBShadow.

Working on the SAP basis is crucial for successful S/4 conversion.

This gives the Competence Center strategic importance for existing SAP customers. Regardless of the S/4 Hana operating model, topics such as Automation, Monitoring, Security, Application Lifecycle Management and Data Management the basis for S/4 operations.

For the fourth time, E3 magazine is organizing a summit for the SAP community in Salzburg to provide comprehensive information on all aspects of S/4 Hana groundwork.
