The Technology Days of the German-speaking SAP User Group e. V. (DSAG) at the World Conference Center Bonn attempted to answer the question of what common ground there is on the way to the cloud and what requirements can be derived for SAP.

2004 was not a good year for SAP: The complete takeover of the consulting subsidiary SAP Systems Integration from Dresden into the Walldorf-based parent company became a lasting loss of knowledge in the areas of outsourcing, hosting, SaaS and ultimately cloud computing.

The disturbing sentence "Cloud only brings ERP into the dilemma" was on the cover of the DSAG member magazine. A wake-up call, but one that did not reach SAP Chief Technology Officer Bernd Leukert.

This year's Sapphire was entertaining, but not insightful. What SAP really wants and where the group is just trying to keep up was not obvious in the keynotes. It remains tedious.

Stupidly, SAP's existing customers can't wait. Real life does not stand still. SAP and some partners prefer to discuss visions instead of offering viable roadmaps.
