Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 for SAP Applications

Suse Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 is based on Linux Enterprise Server 12, a flexible server operating system for delivering highly available enterprise-class IT services in heterogeneous IT environments with industry-leading performance and reduced risk.
Customers benefit from reduced investment of time and resources, as well as improved performance and reliability.
"Suse remains the first choice for SAP applications on Linux, as well as for developing SAP Hana-specific infrastructure requirements for stable, high-availability production operations."
comments Michael Jores, Managing Director Central Europe at Suse.
Advantages
The new version offers customers several advantages when running their mission-critical SAP workloads on Linux: A complete operating system rollback provides additional resilience by allowing snapshots of the system, including kernel files, to be taken and rolled back to that point.
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 includes the infrastructure for Suse Linux Enterprise Live Patching kernel patching technology. It allows security patches to be updated without rebooting or waiting for the next scheduled service window.
The Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension already included in the product provides a proven and leading high availability solution to improve business continuity as well as disaster recovery capabilities for SAP solutions.
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 for SAP Applications takes advantage of the hardware enablement of Enterprise Server 12 to allow customers to run their SAP solutions on the latest hardware.
Automated installation
The Installation Wizard can completely automate the installations. The Enablement of n-Tier enables distributed installations of SAP solution-based systems across the entire IT landscape and fulfills the wishes of customers and partners for a cross-system installation of SAP solutions based on the n-tier approach.
Availability
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 for SAP Applications became available in May and includes 24×7 priority support for enterprise customers, including an 18-month full support period when a new service pack is released.
Simpler Choice
Suse has announced support for SAP's "Simpler Choice" database program. It helps enterprise customers quickly take advantage of SAP in-memory and data management solutions on Linux, a recommended platform for SAP solutions.
"Tens of thousands of companies are using traditional database technologies to support their SAP infrastructure, and they are now looking to modernize to take advantage of in-memory database technologies like Hana"
says Michael Jores, General Manager Central Europe at Suse.
"A large number of customers have already realized significant cost savings as well as improved performance through their migration to Suse Linux Enterprise. Suse's contribution to SAP's Simpler Choice program now makes these migrations conceivably easy and cost-saving."
The Simpler Choice program provides assessments, evaluation offerings, investment protection, simplified database licensing, services and maintenance entitlements to make it easy to adopt SAP in-memory data management solutions.
These solutions include the Hana platform, SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE), SAP IQ software and SAP solutions for enterprise information management. Suse is adding additional services, support, and try-and-buy solutions to enable an easy transition to Linux.
Daniel Lahl, vice president of Hana and ASE product marketing at SAP,
