Shortfacts - November 2015

No monthly SAP news should be disregarded. The Short Facts are dedicated to smaller news items as well as seemingly more or less important statements from the community. This is the place for SAP-specific press releases that otherwise tend to be overlooked.

New nearline solution

PBS Software has introduced its latest nearline storage add-on under SAP IQ. It can be used both under classic BW platforms and seamlessly under BW on Hana.

It also supports migration to SAP BW on Hana, even for non-Unicode systems or older release statuses under traditional databases. The PBS add-on is largely integrated into SAP's own NLS solution.

The nearline data is available under BW on Hana either directly via the SAP NLS standard or via the numerous PBS add-on functions. The advantage of the solution is that primary or nearline databases do not have to be converted to Unicode before migration and nearline data does not have to be migrated.

This minimizes the costs for the migration. If data is moved from the in-memory database to the nearline storage database SAP IQ during Hana operation, this in turn reduces license costs.

The combination of SAP and PBS functionality currently offers the maximum range of functions for nearline processes under SAP IQ, such as strong data compression and fast query response times.
