Search and use of add-on solutions made easy

Open source solutions have long since found their way into practically all data centers and are very effective for a wide variety of purposes. In SAP data centers in particular, open source has long since become a mainstream solution thanks to the many, many Unix-Linux migrations at SAP Classic alone.

And due to the steadily increasing use of Hana and S/4 Hana - combined with a general modernization of data centers in the direction of Software Defined Data Centers - Linux and other open source solutions are experiencing an additional boost; Hadoop, for example, OpenStack or Cloud Foundry (along with new provider models such as IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

The speed of innovation at which open source products are continuously developed is high. New milestones are continuously being set in the form of innovations.

Like last month, when Suse expanded Suse Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications (SLES) with Suse Connect.

Central point

Those who use SLES for SAP applications 12 SP1 can use Suse Connect immediately and thus get a central point at hand that enables Hana SLES customers to have at hand all Hana infrastructure add-on or complementary solutions that are available on the market from SAP partners.

Without a large, time-consuming search in possibly different sources. A great simplification. Suse Connect not only lists various Hana SLES add-on solutions, but all partner solutions are virtually interwoven with SLES.

This means that via SLES, or more precisely via the administration framework/Linux monitoring tool Yast, the products of the SAP and Suse partners can be installed and used for testing purposes free of charge. All products have been tested and certified by Suse.

Also included in the Suse Connect program are various web or consulting services offerings. In these cases, there are direct connections to the respective company/support sites.

If you will, Suse Connect is quite comparable to a kind of app store or portal. At the start of the Suse Connect program last month, four SAP/Suse partners were involved: Centerity for BSM Business Service Management in conjunction with Hana, Revelation Software Concepts for Automated SAP Change Control/Change Intelligence, SEP Software for Hana Backup/Bare Metal Recovery and Datavard with the real-time monitoring solution CanaryCode for Hana.

Integration realized

For example, the real-time monitoring solution CanaryCode was adapted to the special needs of the Suse community as part of the Suse Connect program between Suse and Datavard - including SLES integration.

Datavard's real-time monitoring solution provides an additional safeguard for High Availability (in SLES HAE). Important: It is available in three versions, including a free community version.

Core functions of the solution: Monitoring of the entire system landscape, SAP and non-SAP systems, independent of database and operating system, proactively and in real time from a central cockpit with regard to security & compliance, availability & performance, internal SLAs and user experience.

Disaster recovery can also be monitored (in real time) with CanaryCode. Monitoring is performed using predefined KPIs. Together with SAP and Suse, special indicators for Hana and Suse Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) have been defined and integrated. However, your own KPIs can also be defined without any problems.

In summary, Suse Connect brings together all the offerings of SAP partners around Hana and presents them at a central point.

Hana-SLES customers can access the offerings easily and quickly and use them advantageously for their individual requirements.
