Young talent top, start-ups and investments flop
The land of engineers and inventors is still unfamiliar with the new digital world.
The current Deloitte study "Digital competitiveness - where does Germany stand as a business location?" identifies strengths and weaknesses in the key areas of talent, start-up culture and investment in an OECD comparison.
It is clear that although Germany is very well positioned in terms of the talent pipeline and is also highly attractive to international specialists, it currently has a rather small pool of IT specialists.
Germans are hesitant when it comes to starting a business and see more risks than opportunities: self-employment is not an attractive career option in Germany, which makes it difficult for digitally oriented start-ups to develop dynamically.
Last but not least, investment in digitalization potential and solutions is significantly lower than in most other OECD countries. In this respect, Germany is far behind the leading group.
