During a digital (due to Covid-19) Sapphire Now press conference, SAP CEO Christian Klein reaffirmed the ERP giant's responsibility to its customers:
"Supporting our customers in the operation of their systems naturally remains our top priority, even in times of crisis. We don't leave anyone out in the cold."
In concrete terms, SAP wants to achieve this with a wide range of initiatives relating to greater resilience and sustainability.
One of these involves greater investment in Industry 4.0 in the supply chain. SAP is enabling better insights, increased automation, and responsiveness with its Industry 4.Now initiative. These innovations help companies design and manufacture smart products and assets that can capture and analyze the rising tide of information from sensors throughout the supply chain. For customers, this transforms Industry 4.0 from an initiative focused on manufacturing sites to an enterprise-wide business strategy.
Together with its partners, SAP also offers industry-specific cloud solutions to extend the end-to-end processes of SAP's intelligent suite and support customers' core business in their industry. SAP's industry-specific cloud strategy will enable innovative industry solutions from SAP and its partners.

These solutions are developed using technologies from the Business Technology Platform portfolio and leverage an open API framework, open process model, open domain model, and common business services to provide seamless operations for customers and users.
SAP has also announced a strategy to ensure end-to-end visibility, greater efficiency and seamless collaboration across supply chain processes. By creating a network of smart companies, SAP can help companies digitize cross-enterprise business processes to improve visibility and collaboration across supply chains.
This is an SAP-wide initiative that leverages insights from ERP systems, complex analytics and network solutions such as Ariba Network, SAP Asset Intelligence Network, SAP Logistics Business Network and the SAP Fieldglass solution to seamlessly deliver collective intelligence across an open and interoperable business network.
