SAP Trends 2024—Cloud or On-prem?
Every year since 2018, the digital consulting firm Valantic has asked SAP experts from the DACH region about the current status of S/4 Hana migration, investment intentions, preferred technologies, business opportunities, BPM, cloud and currently artificial intelligence. A good 200 experts took part this year.
When it comes to the cloud, the opinions of SAP companies are divided. Despite the cloud hype - the cloud is now considered a commodity for many services - almost 60 percent of the companies surveyed by Valantic still prefer on-premises operation for their holy of holies, i.e. their ERP system. Only 31 percent go to the S/4 Hana Private Cloud. Only 9.5 percent of survey participants have the confidence to use the S/4 Hana Public Cloud. This goes so far that 23.8 percent reject the public cloud in principle. The large number of internal developments that need to be migrated to the cloud, combined with the limited possibility of influencing cloud processes, is a cause for concern for 47.6 percent of the hesitants.
There are also many important key facts in the Valantic SAP Survey 2024: First, 78.6 percent want to drive automation in the company with S/4 Hana. 45.2 percent of participants are thinking intensively about a transformation to S/4 Hana. In addition, 40.5 percent, the majority, choose the fast and less cost-intensive brownfield migration methodology, which, however, also has disadvantages.
