Boomi World 2025 took place in Dallas, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys and the iconic TV series "Dallas". Against the nostalgic and patriotic backdrop of cowboy westerns and old-school Americana, Boomi offered a high-contrast spectacle, a futuristic journey into topics such as robotics and AI. "The future is now" was a popular motto at the event. Nothing underlined this more than the robot that came on stage to greet Boomi CEO Steve Lucas during his keynote speech.
However, the robot—named B1B—quickly allayed fears of replacing humans by emphasizing: "AI is nothing without human intervention." Although the robot could be seen as a gimmick, it was still an impressive feat of programming.
Human element
Steve Lucas emphasized that the "human element" is indispensable, but that the addition of AI makes humans "superhuman". Those who don't jump on the AI bandwagon are missing out and waving goodbye to business opportunities as they pass them by. AI truly is changing everything, because almost everything can be automated, allowing machines to take over repetitive tasks and leaving humans time for more "human" tasks. Lucas pursued this point tenaciously. As an example, he cited expense reports, which he described as "the worst thing", "they should die". This, he said, is exactly one of the cases for which AI was invented: to spare humans this experience.
However, there are numerous other cases that could also be used as examples. For example, the complexity of an ERP landscape. Complexity is an eternal problem that will not go away and requires a solution. One possible answer is AI agents. Like the internet itself, AI agents have been booming recently. Another quote that played a large role in Lucas' keynote comes from "Jurassic Park": "Your scientists were so busy wondering if they could, they didn't think about whether they should."
AI agents and Agentstudio
In this case, Boomi seems certain that it should enter the AI space, and it did so with a bang by unveiling the general availability of its AI agents, which debuted in 2024. Boomi now has 33,000 AI agents and aims to help companies transition from deterministic to agent-based processes.
With Agentstudio, users can create their own AI agent that can be inserted into any process and requires no code. The AI agents can be customized with long-term memory, custom guardrails, learning capabilities and much more, all at a supposedly lower cost. In addition, the agents communicate with each other within the Boomi platform, which is apparently better than Google's agent-to-agent protocol, at least according to Steve Lucas. Agentstudio has been available to anyone with access to the Boomi platform since May 24, 2025.
Speed of trust
Ed Macosky took the stage on the second day of the event and said another phrase that characterized Boomi World 2025: "Trust is earned, not given", and Boomi hopes to earn that trust. "Change only happens at the speed of trust" was also popular, meaning in this case that change can only happen when customers trust that the solutions work and implement them into their own landscape. Without trust in solutions, there is no innovation, no future.
Macosky announced the future presence of the iPaaS platform in Europe and later in the Middle East, as well as its global availability at a later date. He described the three phases undertaken for the release of the AI agents. Phase one was the release of the AI agents to customers. Phase two was the implementation of agent solutions. Phase three was the general availability of the AI agents, which took place on May 24.
Macosky also explained some aspects of what's new in the agent management space: namely, the ability to design APIs and create documentation, agent collaboration, and the ability to discover AI assets on the Boomi marketplace. The latter point means that pre-programmed AI agents can be found on the marketplace if for some reason a customer is not interested in creating their own agent from scratch.
Other developments include in-flow governance and RAG pipelines. Boomi has also released new capabilities for data governance with new management tools (Power BI and Tableau), dataset profiling and cataloging (DataHub), and better data integration and master data synchronization to build pipelines to other data repositories, such as Snowflake or Databricks. These are all further tools to achieve the agent-based future that Boomi is aiming for. New features include native integration with Kafka and Confluent for seamless integration with Boomi.
Integration and automation
The Boomi platform now also enables the extension of capabilities with ERP landscapes, such as NetSuite and Shopify etc. It also enables composable APIs. Users can create an API in the API Management Solution on the Boomi platform. They can use AI agents to populate the API, document it, set policies, etc. They can also ensure that they comply with governance rules.
Olympic wisdom
The keynote ended with an interview with Olympians Tara Davis-Woodhall, Olympic gold medalist in the long jump, and her husband Hunter Woodhall, Paralympic gold medalist in the 400-meter sprint. Although the parallels between business and sport are perhaps a little off the mark, Boomi CEO Steve Lucas managed to conduct a captivating interview with Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall, who were very charismatic. The Olympic athletes answered questions such as why they are striving for the gold medal, especially as female and Paralympic athletes struggle to find funding for their sporting achievements. Tara Davis-Woodhall replied that it was for the 17-year-old version of herself who had the drive to be "the best ever". She also emphasized that in achieving goals, "you either win or you learn." The nuggets of wisdom can be applied to many areas outside of athletics and IT, particularly the following: "Your results don't define you. At the end of the day, you close your computer and you're human." Ultimately, it's important to remember that AI is here to help humans not "feel burdened by technology," as Steve Lucas put it, but to enrich lives and create more time for humanity and human activities; meaningless, robotic tasks should be left to the robots.
