Potential remains unused

Devoteam has released the results of a recent study that analyzed the maturity of enterprises in adopting and using the cloud, as well as the future prospects of the cloud for achieving business goals.
The results underscore the role of the cloud as a catalyst for digital innovation and growth. The IDC study surveyed 700 IT decision makers and business leaders from 16 countries in the EMEA region.
Despite the massive increase in cloud usage, the survey reveals significant differences in the level of development of companies. However, this plays a decisive role in their business performance and ability to innovate.
The results illustrate that currently only 15 percent of respondents at EMEA level have reached the final stage of their cloud development; they belong to the most experienced user category, the so-called cloud innovators. Of this 15 percent, only 17 percent are using the cloud at both an operational and strategic level. This proportion will increase to 77 percent by 2023.
As a direct result of this relatively low maturity level, only 38 percent of applications have been migrated to the cloud to date. By 2023, 70 percent of applications will have been migrated to the cloud thanks to turnkey cloud-native development and deployment services.
The study results also indicate that there will be a significant shift to the cloud in the near future. To date, 54 percent of companies use multiple cloud providers. In the future, public and hybrid multi-cloud architectures will be the norm.
In addition, the issue of sustainability is becoming an important differentiator for European companies when choosing a cloud provider.
