Last year, the number of employees in the German IT and telecommunications industry rose more strongly than expected, and this stronger-than-expected employment growth is expected to continue in 2016.
At the end of 2015, ICT companies employed around 1,010,000 people, which was around 7,000 more than originally expected. According to a current forecast by the digital association Bitkom, at least 20,000 additional jobs will be created in the current year.
This brings the number of employees to 1,030,000, which is 8,000 more than Bitkom had expected in its economic forecast in the spring. The additional jobs will be created exclusively by software houses and IT service providers.
In information technology, Bitkom expects an increase of around 25,000 jobs to 825,500 in 2016.
