Starting signal for a sovereign cloud platform
SAP and Arvato Systems are investing in a sovereign cloud platform. Microsoft is also getting involved.
The new cloud offering will meet the specific national requirements that play a decisive role in the German cloud strategy. There will also be no dependencies on networks outside Germany, which further underlines the independence of the sovereign cloud. Data processing and data storage as well as the operation of all services will take place in Germany. A new German company is to be founded to provide the sovereign cloud offering for the public sector in Germany. It is planned that Arvato Systems will be one of the shareholders alongside SAP and will also take over operations.
The offering is based on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. This allows Microsoft services such as the collaboration tools and productivity solutions from Microsoft 365 as well as SAP business solutions and applications to be provided. Approved third-party providers can also offer their applications on the platform. "Digital technologies continue to rapidly change the way we live and work, and we have a critical opportunity to bring progress to people and organizations everywhere, including Germany," says Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, about the partnership.
