Through a joint initiative, Siemens Digital Industries Software will apply IBM's open hybrid cloud approach built on Red Hat OpenShift. This will extend the flexible deployability of MindSphere, Siemens' industrial IoT-as-a-service solution.
Customers can thus operate MindSphere both on-premises and via the cloud. While the on-premises solution provides speed and agility in factory and plant operations, the cloud variant is the choice for end-to-end product support, updates and networking with the enterprise.
"Most industry data is generated outside of IT - on the shop floor, in the supply chain, or through connected products. However, to leverage digital technologies, manufacturers faced a choice between sending the data to the enterprise cloud or bringing the technology to the point of action" says Manish Chawla, Industry General Manager, Energy, Resources and Manufacturing at IBM.
"Our collaboration with Siemens leverages the hybrid cloud to give manufacturers the best of both worlds: Autonomy, speed and control over data processed on the store floor, and end-to-end connectivity to the enterprise."To support the implementation, consultants from IBM will act as managed services providers for MindSphere customers.
