Healthcare: Moving into the SAP Cloud at the right pace

SAP's announcement that it will no longer develop the IS-H industry solution and will also discontinue support is undoubtedly alarming. The processes affected by this concern safety standards, supply chains and compliance issues and are therefore system-critical. A sustainable approach is needed to safeguard the sensitive logistics processes in the healthcare sector - from materials management to pharmacy, nursing and kitchen logistics through to maintenance - in the long term.
Guaranteed continuity
The future-proof solution that guarantees this continuity and thus also ensures investment protection for existing customers already exists and is called SnapWare GHT. As of January 2025, Snap Consulting has exclusively taken over the strategic health template (GHT) from SAP. SnapWare GHT includes the tried-and-tested modules for pharmacy, nursing, materials management and catering management that Snap has already developed and supported in the past.
Snap is now responsible for these central hospital logistics solutions, which are currently used in over 60 hospitals and university clinics in the DACH region, as a maintenance and development partner. In order to strengthen the strategic importance of SnapWare GHT in the healthcare sector, I have taken on the role of direct contact person in Austria for this area.
S/4 On-prem plus SAP Cloud Services
We want to offer our healthcare customers stability in the existing and changing system landscape. Christian Knell, Managing Partner of Snap, underlines our commitment: „We are committed to the long-term support of S/4 On-prem and at the same time open the door to the new SAP world (Cloud ERP/Cloud ERP Private) for our customers. In concrete terms, this means that the GHT modules based on SAP ERP and S/4 will be seamlessly continued, modernized and functionally expanded.“
With a clearly defined roadmap that points the way to SAP BTP, we also enable our customers to flexibly supplement traditional on-prem processes with SAP Cloud Services. Be it for mobile applications - for example in pharmacy, nursing or catering - for the integration of external systems, for complex use cases based on SAP Business AI or for analyses and automation using SAP Build, RAP, CAP and SAP Fiori.
One example of this is the SnapMSV3service - a digital MSV3-based supply availability and ordering process for hospital pharmacies that is integrated into SAP. The cloud-based software model (SaaS) was developed on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and uses the standardized web-based MSV3 interface for data exchange. SnapMSV3service cloud is also available as a standalone component outside the IT systems of hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers.
The right pace, not the fastest
The challenges facing the healthcare sector, such as demographic change, the shortage of
The increasing number of specialists and the resulting strain on existing staff, as well as the sharp rise in bureaucracy within clinics, pose structural and organizational challenges for the system. Due to the sensitive demands placed on structures and solutions that have evolved over the years (Z developments are often relevant), disruptive developments need to be handled with care.
That is why we support our healthcare customers on their journey to the cloud at the pace that is right for them. And that's why we stand by SAP solutions that continue to run flawlessly on S/4 on-prem systems and provide support with (BTP) cloud services where necessary and appropriate.
