In mid-October, SAP announced that Bill McDermott would not be renewing his contract and would be stepping down from his position as CEO. The long-term succession planning of the Supervisory Board, which has appointed Executive Board members Jennifer Morgan and Christian Klein as successors and co-CEOs, is thus taking effect.
McDermott plans to remain with the company in an advisory role until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. Marco Lenck, Chairman of the German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG), comments on the restructuring on the occasion of the appointment of the new SAP top management:
"Bill McDermott's resignation came as a surprise to us. We wish him all the best for his future endeavors and thank him for the journey together. At the same time, we congratulate Christian Klein on his new role as Co-CEO of SAP.
We see his appointment as a strengthening of SAP's home market. In our cooperation to date, we have found Christian Klein to be a dialog partner who is open to dialogue and close to the customer, and we look forward to further intensifying our collaboration in the interests of SAP users in German-speaking countries.
We see the team at the top of SAP with Jennifer Morgan as a modern leadership culture. SAP is thus setting the course for the future and is also renewing its leadership."
