Managing directors initiate digitization projects

Natuvion surveyed 201 decision-makers in companies that have already carried out a transformation project or are currently undergoing a transformation. The aim was, among other things, to find out the motivation and decisive influencing factors for the transformation and to find out what effects the move of core processes to a new technology platform has in the company. In summary, the study shows that the majority of digital transformation processes are undertaken for strategic reasons, although not exclusively.
That their motivations are purely strategic was said by only 30 percent of respondents about their initiatives. The majority, 67 percent, cited other reasons besides a strategic orientation, including organizational adjustments, better and faster business decisions, cost reduction or the introduction of innovative business models. These results are not surprising in light of the fact that the majority of digitization initiatives were initiated by management or boards of directors.
The proportion is over 60 percent, so that a strategic background can be assumed with a high degree of probability. The high percentage of strategic justification by the high proportion of managing directors and board members also reflects the objectives of the transformation projects. An increase in quality and high process reliability (almost 65 percent), better future viability (58 percent) and lowering costs (48 percent) were the most important motives of the respondents in the multiple selection. Only 22 percent cited reducing the need for skilled workers as a goal.
