AI Toolbox for Developers

Workday is putting the power of Illuminate, its AI platform for managing people, finance and agents, directly into the hands of customer and partner developers with a new toolset. They will be able to easily customize and connect AI applications and agents on the Workday platform.
AI for the future of work
Illuminate is powered by the largest and cleanest data set in HR and finance - fed by over one trillion transactions per year. The solution understands the business context of the data and transforms operations by empowering employees, accelerating financial processes and managing an organization's entire fleet of AI agents. The new toolset includes several solutions that make work easier and more efficient:
The Agent Gateway allows developers to connect third-party agents to the Workday Agent System of Record (ASOR). This enables seamless registration and collaboration between agents. Partners can join the new Workday Agent Partner Network and list their agents in the Workday Marketplace. This allows customers to select agents that fit their specific needs with a trusted, unified solution for managing their human and digital workforce.
AI Widgets allow developers to integrate AI-driven widgets into applications and set custom prompts. This provides users with personalized AI support to quickly create or refine content in the HR and finance context. For example, AI widgets can support customer support, answer common questions automatically or guide users through processes, while advanced APIs in the AI Gateway enable developers to natively integrate new Workday AI services into applications. Users can query reports or understand documents using natural language. For example, a developer can use document intelligence to automatically classify documents and extract key information.
"Today, developers are under tremendous pressure to deliver sophisticated AI applications quickly - in a complex, fragmented AI ecosystem. They are piecing together tools and services with limited compatibility, making innovation difficult," said Matthew Grippo, Senior Vice President, Core Software, Workday. "Workday's new AI developer toolset removes these barriers. It enables developers to seamlessly integrate powerful AI capabilities into the applications and agents that will shape the future of work."
AI Developer Copilot
Workday is also expanding Developer Copilot - the conversational AI assistant that helps developers code faster - across Workday Extend. The offering is complemented by the new Workday Developer CLI - a command line tool that facilitates the automation of development steps, improves team collaboration and supports the integration of Workday into existing DevOps workflows. The Agent Gateway is available to early adopter customers until the end of 2025. The new Workday AI Services, AI Widgets, enhanced Developer Copilot capabilities (available with Workday Extend Professional), and the Workday Developer CLI will also be generally available by the end of 2025.
