Akamai Technologies announced the acquisition of Janrain, a pioneer in the field of Customer Identity Access Management (CIAM). Janrain enables organizations to increase their digital security by outsourcing the log-in and registration workloads.
The integration of Janrain solutions into the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform offers companies the highest level of security, compliance with European legislation and outstanding scaling for online interactions.
The more companies rely on cloud technologies and drive digitalization, the more important web security and identity management become to protect their operations and build digital trust.
Akamai already protects its customers' websites, apps and APIs from DDoS attacks, application vulnerabilities, bots and other advanced threats - with hundreds of millions of login transactions performed daily on the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform.
The acquisition of Janrain expands Akamai's portfolio and enables its customers to increase the digital trust of their users. Akamai provides a secure and resilient environment to capture and store sensitive user information. It can also manage privacy controls, prevent identity fraud and increase brand loyalty.
"Online business is a real challenge if there is a lack of fundamental digital trust"
says Rick McConnell, Chairman at Akamai Technologies and General Manager of the Akamai Web Division.
"The combination of Janrain's Identity Cloud with the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform creates an additional layer of security that allows our customers to learn more about their end users and potentially increase revenue through closer customer relationships."
The integration of Janrain Identity Cloud into the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform will immediately improve security for CIAM customers in the areas of bot management and threat intelligence.
Akamai Bot Manager minimizes the risks of credential abuse by detecting and managing bot activity at the time of login or registration. This prevents fraud attempts without compromising the user experience.
Akamai's threat intelligence helps customers determine exactly who is authorized to access registration and log-in pages based on their users' reputation scores and recorded online behavior.
The integrated technology also enables adaptive authentication solutions that are risk-based and offer extreme precision, scalability and security. This protects customers from malicious account activity, such as the creation of false accounts or the theft of login credentials.
"Janrain has long been focused on developing an innovative solution that increases digital trust by authenticating and authorizing every customer and every connected device that interacts with the digital enterprise"
explains Jim Kaskade, Chief Executive Officer, Janrain.
"By improving the scaling and intelligence gathering of the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform with the Janrain Identity Cloud, we can realize more accurate, efficient and comprehensive identity management, delivering trusted digital experiences that are unique to each user."
Janrain is a privately held company. The all-cash transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019. Akamai expects the acquisition of Janrain to be slightly dilutive to non-GAAP net income per share for 2019, but accretive to earnings in 2020. The acquisition will not impact the target non-GAAP operating profit margin of 30 percent by 2020.
