Today, public sector organizations are better able than ever to access a wealth of information and real-time data, but still face the challenge of connecting that information and data across disparate locations, business units, and teams. SAP IoT aims to ensure that the vast amounts of data from disparate devices are analyzed and used in a meaningful way.
This involves the use of IoT solutions that apply machine learning and are linked to the core business applications of S/4 Integrate Hana. SAP's new IoT solution packages are specifically tailored to the requirements of Industry 4.0. The Jumpstart Package networks the operational systems with the enterprise systems and thus makes it possible to keep an eye on the efficiency of the manufacturing plants and processes.
The Accelerator Package additionally provides an automated, paperless environment to better plan and monitor production operations. Planning and execution in manufacturing are supported by analysis and maintenance functions. Both packages are complemented by the SAP Distributed Manufacturing application. The Jumpstart and Accelerator packages are available now. SAP is also planning to introduce a third solution package for Industry 4.0.

Acquisitions
Recently SAP acquired the Italian company Platone, whose IoT application platform enables easier development, implementation and Management of complex IoT solutions.
With the acquisition of Norwegian IoT provider Fedem Technology, the company aims to SAP lay the groundwork for the development of an end-to-end IoT solution in which a digital avatar continuously displays information on the condition of operational assets by reading data from sensors, replacing physical inspections of assets with "digital inspections."
SAP also plans to set up several sites around the world to work with customers, partners, and startups to drive development in Industrie 4.0 and Internet of things to move forward.
