Gartner: Ten common cloud strategy mistakes 

"A good cloud strategy should be a short and easy-to-understand document consisting of ten to twenty pages or slides," says Marco Meinardi, vice president analyst at Gartner. "In addition, the business strategy should drive the cloud strategy and guide those who implement it. It must coexist with other strategic efforts and not try to override them."

Gartner analysts discussed how to enable and leverage the cloud and how to prove the benefits at the Gartner IT Infrastructure, Operations and Cloud Strategies Confe-rence 2022. IT leaders should work together to develop a cloud strategy and avoid the following ten mistakes when building their cloud strategy:

• Assume it is pure IT

• Do not have an exit strategy

• Combining/confusing a cloud strategy with an implementation 

• The belief that it is too late to develop a cloud strategy

• We move everything to the cloud

• The statement "Our cloud strategy is our data center strategy."

• That an executive mandate is a strategy

• The belief that being a "name of a vendor" store means that this is the cloud strategy

• Outsourcing the development of the cloud strategy

• The statement "Our strategy is cloud first" is the entire cloud strategy
