SAP for the Bundeswehr
The Bundeswehr and BWI in Meckenheim have signed a contract for IT services for the Bundeswehr. BWI will operate and further develop the non-military IT infrastructure of the Bundeswehr on the basis of an open-ended service contract.
The Federal Republic of Germany also acquired all the shares in the BWI companies on December 28. This means that BWI is now a wholly-owned federal company.
In addition to the complete operation of the more than 140,000 Bundeswehr PCs, the services include the complete software management, the operation of telecommunications, the computer centers, the data networks and the central processes such as e-mail, Internet and intranet of the Bundeswehr as well as the support of Bundeswehr users.
BWI is also responsible for the IT security of the IT infrastructure it operates, runs SAP for the Bundeswehr and supports the development and introduction of new SAP processes.
