50 Years of the Internet - New Chapter in Human History
What began with the networking of four computers in the USA in 1969 is now used by more than four billion people worldwide. But what was the cornerstone of the digital revolution? And what distinguishes the Internet from the World Wide Web?
Professor Christoph Meinel, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and Head of the Department of Internet Technologies and Systems, answers these and other questions in the new podcast episode Neuland.
In conversation with moderator Leon Stebe, he talks about the milestones and developments of the Internet over the past 50 years, but also about the current challenges that technical changes pose for society and the future prospects of the World Wide Web.
"Digitization is a phenomenon unprecedented in human history"
explains HPI Director Christoph Meinel.
"Humanity is in new demand here. Digitalization offers unimagined development opportunities, but there are also downsides. For this reason, it is important to help shape the digital transformation and not wait and see what happens."
