Shortfacts - May 2021

No monthly SAP news should be disregarded. The Short Facts are dedicated to smaller news items as well as seemingly more or less important statements from the community. This is the place for SAP-specific press releases that otherwise tend to be overlooked.

Calculation and work plans digitized

As a globally active developer and manufacturer of machines, systems and complete solutions for the fish, meat and poultry processing industry, Marel is introducing the Simus Classmate software suite for automatic costing and work plan creation.

The Boxmeer and Dongen (Netherlands) production sites have been successfully using the solution since January 2021. Gainesville in Georgia (USA) and Gardabaer in Iceland are set to follow in the first half of 2021. In 2019, a group of engineers from all key production sites began searching for software that automatically provides work plans and a calculation of future manufacturing costs based on 3D models and component information in order to identify potential for improvement.

Numerous workshops were held with designers, cost engineers, mechanical engineers, procurement and the new partner Simus Systems, and new processes were defined. Marel's IT department created connections to SAP. The challenges of a multi-CAD environment were successfully overcome.

In the Simus Classmate solution, the classification by product group is displayed on the left and the parts list structure with 3D views on the right.
