IT Salaries and Recruiting Trends in 2024
The IT industry is dynamic and constantly changing, and so are recruitment tactics and hiring practices. Recruitment consultancy Robert Walters has published a study that provides an up-to-date insight into the expected developments up to the end of 2024, in particular what companies are expecting and implementing.
Key developments in recruiting
There are three main areas of focus in this category: data management as a priority, the rise of cybersecurity, and a return to physical office spaces. Data infrastructure is key to a successful digital transformation and a solid foundation for the future implementation of AI. Data infrastructure is key to successful digital transformation and a solid foundation for future AI implementations. To this end, organizations are increasingly focusing on data management. However, with new developments in AI come new opportunities for cyber threats. In response to the new threats on the horizon, many organizations are focusing on their security measures to keep threats at bay. Additionally, hybrid work models are widespread and likely to remain so, as they are popular with employees for the flexibility they offer in organizing their lives. However, companies are encouraging more physical presence in the workplace to build team spirit and facilitate collaboration, not as a replacement for hybrid work models, but as a variation on them.
HR strategies for the future
Three new strategies are emerging in recruitment trends, namely greater diversity among potential employees, the provision of certified qualifications during the recruitment process and the offer of further training opportunities. Companies that consider non-German speaking applicants will find it easier to find and retain talent. English is the lingua franca of the world, especially the IT world. However, if English is not an option as a corporate language, offering supplementary internal German courses is one way to close the language gap. In addition to a more specific focus in the recruitment process, for example by specifying knowledge of machine learning or deep learning as a requirement instead of general AI knowledge, companies can gain a good deal by giving their employees the opportunity for further training and also paying for said training. These measures help to ensure that companies can hire workers with exactly the skills they require.
Salary trends
A salary increase of up to 2 percent is expected for the position of IT governance consultant. For the role of data scientist, the figure is 5 percent. However, IT specialists in other positions need not fear that their salaries will stagnate, as 70 percent of companies in the study stated that they intend to pay their IT specialists a salary increase by 2024.
