SAP Solution: MES

MES, Manufacturing Execution System, is a collective term for the direct automation of manufacturing. MES is also referred to as production control system and is used for production planning. Related terms are CIM, Industry 4.0 and IIoT.

At the behest of the DSAG (German-speaking SAP User Group), SAP has postponed the end of maintenance for the ME and MII solutions from 2027 to 2030. Companies now have time to switch to SAP DM, but should nevertheless consider migrating at an early stage.
Companies need a functioning IT landscape to ensure smooth business processes. In order to guarantee this, system environments need to be tested regularly—despite increased automation efforts, this is often still a small-scale and time-consuming task.
In times of international crises and wars, it is more important than ever for companies to secure their value creation. To achieve this, all supply chains must be organized as flexibly and resiliently as possible. The foundation for this is valid data.
Financial data is among the best-maintained data–at least one annual financial statement is the standard in companies, and most even have a well-developed financial reporting system. Nevertheless, many companies are missing out on an important opportunity!
There is still a lot of potential for digital process support. The company Deutz in Cologne, Germany, uses a mobile and lean application to drastically simplify and speed up processes.
The connection of heterogeneous machines and the semantic processing of data are essential prerequisites for the successful operation of both ERP and MES solutions such as SAP Digital Manufacturing.
The SAP user group DSAG has achieved that SAP extends the maintenance for the manufacturing solutions Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (MII) until the end of 2030.
SAP offers a comprehensive solution portfolio for digital manufacturing with the Digital Manufacturing Cloud at its core. To be able to view all production data centrally and control the associated processes accordingly, companies should also use a central IIoT solution such as Synsights.
Fast, cost-effective entry into digital manufacturing and complete traceability are business-critical for medium-sized manufacturers. A lean MES with UX design that users can configure themselves makes this possible.
A uniform IT infrastructure and the switch to S/4 form the basis for the companies of Blanc und Fischer Familienholding to more closely interlink products and services and thus offer new, integrated solutions around the kitchen living space.
SAP CEO Christian Klein sees extensive opportunities in the current challenges in global supply chains and logistics: "Indeed, SAP has excellent software offerings and business processes for global goods distribution and production.
Interview: Open and flexible: The Forcam solution ideally complements the SAP world: Uncertainty in the markets, potential through IT platforms, the importance of partner marketplaces and why machines could also tweet - a conversation with Oliver Hoffmann, Co-CEO at Forcam and responsible for global sales.

Working on the SAP basis is crucial for successful S/4 conversion.
