Quick Transformation From a Single Source
Business IT is currently undergoing the biggest change since the noughties, when the transformation from mainframe to client/server architectures caused a sensation. Today, new technologies such as cloud computing, cloud EAI, business AI and machine learning are shaping the IT platforms of the future.
However, this technical change cannot be viewed in isolation. According to a recent study by Natuvion and NTT Data Business Solutions, companies are pursuing much more with a transformation. The most common reason (36 percent) for an IT transformation is organizational adaptation or restructuring. The introduction of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), is cited by 27% and around 26% want to introduce new business models or increase their ability to innovate.
It seems that the majority of companies can no longer achieve decisive competitive advantages with new functionalities. Rather, it is about the strategic orientation and future viability of a company. This may have something to do with the fact that cloud technology is not only changing the uniqueness of applications, but above all the process of developing and providing them. The functions of different manufacturers and products are converging more and more, and data is increasingly becoming the differentiating factor.
Companies need room for maneuver and for this they need valid data of the best quality. This is the basis and fuel for innovative processes. If you want to improve the level of data quality before switching to the cloud, you must therefore precede the transformation with a project to improve data quality. Companies find this difficult. According to a study by Natuvion and NTT Data Business Solutions, 30 percent of companies cite poor data quality as the biggest surprise during their IT transformation. This seems to have consequences. More and more companies are now investing a lot of time and money in professional data cleansing, or housekeeping, in the run-up to a transformation project.
This has positive consequences for the migration: only 21.5% of companies choose the brownfield method, in which the data is imported 1:1 into the new system. 33.4 percent opted for a fresh start (greenfield) and 30.5 percent of study participants opted for selective data migration. This method ensures that only the data that is absolutely necessary is migrated to the new system. Just under 15 percent opted for a combination of selective data migration with the brownfield or greenfield approach.
Maximum flexibility: One Data Transformation Approach
Maximum functionality with the greatest possible freedom is important for companies. This freedom relates to the choice of provider (SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Infor, etc.) and the deployment platform (on-premises, public cloud or private cloud). To achieve this, transformations must be standardized - if not industrialized - to a high degree. To achieve this, companies and transformation specialists need an approach that eliminates dependencies and individual solutions as much as possible. The only thing that matters is the data.
Natuvion's OneData Transformation Approach gives companies this flexibility and freedom during the transformation. In addition, they can combine their transformation with other projects, such as the fiscal year change or the introduction of a new general ledger. With the One Transformation Approach, companies have the approach, tools and expertise they need to successfully implement a transformation and achieve their corporate goals.
