Large public cloud providers win
The market in Germany is now growing somewhat faster than global business, as the provider comparison "Cloud Transformation, Operation Services and XaaS" shows.
According to the annual study conducted by the market research and consulting firm ISG, the major providers are currently expanding their lead: For example, the German IaaS business of Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing by around 40 percent this year, and that of Microsoft by around 60 percent.
Together with Google as the third largest provider, this means that almost two-thirds of the market is now in the hands of these three hyperscalers. The remaining third is shared primarily by IBM, Deutsche Telekom, Oracle and several regional public cloud providers.
Beyond the hyperscaler IaaS market, ISG examined a total of over 140 providers in nine submarkets in the study.
"Microsoft is currently making up a lot of ground as it markets not only its cloud infrastructure, but ready-made solutions and product bundles for specific application scenarios"
says Heiko Henkes, Director Advisor of ISG Information Services Group and Lead Advisor of the study.
"In addition, German SMEs, which are already familiar with Microsoft from numerous other services and products, are now also investing heavily in the public cloud."
Google has also recently gained market share, as the company has a strong offering for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud productivity and has recently significantly expanded its partner network in Europe and Germany as well.
