Heal instead of manage
Clinics are challenged to automate their administrative tasks so that they can save time and resources and increase efficiency. Until now, digital transformation in healthcare has focused very much on the administration and billing of patient data. However, the management of Braunschweig Hospital, with 21 clinics, 10 independent clinical departments and 7 institutes, recognized that modern personnel administration is also necessary in order to create a motivating work environment for the more than 4,000 employees through data-based planning and to attract new talent.
Paper masses and planning
Like any large employer, the hospital faced the challenge of managing administrative paperwork, improving workforce planning and retention, and increasing transparency in managing human resources. After a careful selection process, the hospital chose Workday's cloud-based and intuitive HCM solution.
"We used to have a lot of unstructured paperwork with disconnected and unconnected processes," explains Julia Gaidosch, Team Leader Human Resources at Klinikum Braunschweig. "Due to ever more extensive tasks, such as more hiring, we have reached our limits and become slower in our processes. And the quality of our HR processes also began to suffer."
"From the management's point of view, forward-looking control based on figures, data and facts was hardly possible in view of the various challenges," adds Oliver Füllgraf, Head of Human Resources at Klinikum Braunschweig. "A holistic digital approach is very rare in healthcare and hospitals. We didn't want an isolated solution, such as only for applicant management, but a truly fully integrated solution for all HR processes, so we wouldn't have to work with a variety of patchwork systems." Workday's HCM solution is a unified system that brings together data from all employees and makes it available as part of a connected talent experience. Areas covered include development, recruitment and performance.
"The modular and integrated approach, the high level of standardization and the flexibility, for example for use with mobile devices, convinced us," explains Julia Gaidosch. And Oliver Füllgraf adds: "What struck us positively in the selection process was the clear and structured presentation of the diverse Workday solutions as well as the consistent answering of our questions. The decisive factor was that the Workday platform allows us to make changes to the IT system ourselves without having to rely on external third parties. That's a big advantage for us."
