Trends in archiving 2025

The switch to S/4 will become even more urgent and will therefore have an impact on archiving processes. The changeover will force companies to rethink their data and document management and archiving and to adapt existing solutions. This will result in the following archiving trends for 2025:
- Cloud-native architectures and containerization: More and more companies are adopting cloud-native approaches and integrating their archive applications directly into the cloud - or relying on hybrid environments. The integration of archives embedded natively in the cloud will continue to increase in 2025 - as will the use of containers for SAP applications and archives.
- What role does AI play in data and document archiving? AI helps with the analysis of structured and unstructured data. A lot of data is stored in archives. With the right software, this data could be turned into data gold for appropriate analysis. In 2025, those archiving specialists with a deep understanding of SAP and a large user group who can provide their customers with the first low-hanging fruits in AI cases for archiving will score points with AI.
- Compliance remains a must: Due to new data protection laws and stricter compliance guidelines, companies are increasingly relying on archive solutions that guarantee long-term storage under the highest security standards. SAP archives must be designed in such a way that these regulations can be adhered to.
- Marriage between SAP and SharePoint: The need for a single point of truth for accessing archived documents is increasing. Large systems such as SAP and SharePoint in particular need to be married when it comes to data and document archiving. Platforms that consolidate archive data from different sources and enable centralized management will therefore be even more in demand in 2025 than before.
