Study on AI integration in DAX 40 companies
Prof. Julian Kawohl and Maximilian Otte from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin) have analyzed the integration of AI technologies in the DAX 40 companies. The result: 32 of the 40 companies already offer AI solutions, with a total of 263 different AI solutions identified, covering seven out of ten defined areas of life. However, 63 percent of all solutions are provided by just seven companies.
The analysis shows that 81 percent of AI solutions are located in the areas of Work and Mobility, while no AI solutions were found in the areas of Spirituality, Socialize and Recreation. A detailed industry analysis reveals major differences in various sectors. "Our research shows that the mobility sector in particular has the highest penetration of AI, with an integration rate of 57%," says Prof. Julian Kawohl, Chair of Strategic Management at HTW Berlin.
In contrast, the chemical, finance, real estate and logistics sectors have the lowest AI penetration. Computer vision (25 percent) and process optimization (19 percent) are the most frequently used types of AI. "The concentration of AI solutions in just a few companies is remarkable: Seven companies provide 63 percent of all identified AI solutions," explains Prof. Kawohl. These are: SAP, Telekom, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, VW and Continental.
